An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Carlucci Puts Focus On New Gift Card Law In Palisades Mall Visit Shoppers at the Palisades Mall in West Nyack found out their holiday gift cards won't come with as many strings attached. State Sen. David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) greeted shoppers at the mall Friday to let them know about new state laws concerning gift cards that were signed in September. The new law delays the point in which fees may be charged for unused gift cards, and prevents an expiration of fewer than five years from the date it was issued. Ossining celebrated the Winter Solstice by hosting a Make Music Day on Dec. 21. Free live music was performed throughout the village. The event was organized by Make Music Ossining Briarcliff. Two Injured In Chestnut Ridge Road Crash CHESTNUT RIDGE, N.Y. -- Two men were taken to the hospital with injuries following a two-car accident Friday morning in Chestnut Ridge. A vehicle driving south on Chestnut Ridge Road just south of Alpine Court crossed into the northbound lane to pass other cars and headed straight for another car, according to Ramapo Police. As that driver cut back into the southbound lane, the two cars collided at around 10:45 a.m. The vehicles struck each other at an angle; not head-on, police said. Candy'n Cards Closing In Scarsdale After 50 Years WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Emily Hirsch, the 99-year-old owner of Scarsdale Candy'n Cards announced she is closing the store, having been in business at 25 Spenser Place for 50 years. Carrie Fisher, 60, Dropped Out Of College In Westchester To Do 'Star Wars' Carrie Fisher, who died Tuesday at the age of 60, after suffering a heart attack on Friday, was briefly enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College in Southern Westchester.
