I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia,  all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Ramirez left after approximately a month, leaving a vacancy, lohud.com reported. Charles-Pierre will have to run for the seat in May if she wants to retain it, according to lohud.com. Croton-Harmon HS Field Hockey Earns League Title CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Croton-Harmon High School field hockey team earned the title of League Champion after its recent victory over Rye Neck, 2-0. So far, the team’s record is 13-1. Head coach Dorothy Perrone and assistant coach Pamela Morrison are now preparing the team for the sectional tournament.

Tuckahoe Police Win Charity Chili Cook-Off TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – The Tuckahoe Police Department took home first prize in the Charity Chili Cook-Off at Broken Bow Brewery on Oct. 17. The police department won first place, a chili-bowl-shaped trophy, and a year’s worth of bragging rights over fire department and EVAC department . The designated charity this year was The Sharing Shelf of Family Services of Westchester, “Backpacks to School” campaign. The Chili Cook-Off raised just under $3000.

Port Chester Arts Center Exhibits Public To Celebration PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – A local artist visited the Clay Arts Center (CAC) and the Port Chester High School in April. More than 700 people designed and made clay bowls The CAC has been exhibiting their work since Sept 6. The final exhibit day is Nov. 7, when the CAC invites community members to a celebration of the creativity. Attendees will choose one of the clay bowls to use while enjoying home-made snacks. Bard College Will Purchase Montgomery Place From Historic Hudson Valley ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- Bard College will purchase the historic 380-acre Montgomery Place estate from the Historic Hudson Valley (HHV). Ownership will transfer by the end of 2015.The deed requires that Bard preserve the estate, including its working farm. College President Leon Botstein promised to preserve public access to the estate. Deed restrictions also guarantee the permanent protection of the site’s historic, architectural, visual, and environmental resources. The purchase will expand the campus to 1,000 contiguous acres. Police Charge Wappinger Man With DWI POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Police arrested 28-year-old Ryan M. Cave, of Wappinger, for Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, according to state police. On Oct. 18, troopers patrolling Route 376 observed a speeding vehicle. According to the police report, when they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver up to 70 mph and entered a private driveway before shutting off the car’s lights. The troopers identified the driver as Cave, and determined he was intoxicated. Cave provided a breath sample that yielded a Blood Alcohol Content of .15%, according to the police report.
