I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia,  all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Millwood Fire Department Moves Into Larger, Modern Home MILLWOOD, N.Y. – The Millwood Fire Department has finally realized its dream of a firehouse that can hold modern equipment, The Examiner News reported. The department left the 91-year-old fire station and moved into a larger, modern firehouse at 100 Millwood Road, approximately 300 yards from the original firehouse. The original firehouse was too small for modern firetrucks. Firefighters in safety gear or carrying equipment could not easily move around their trucks, according to The Examiner News. Briarcliff Manor Resident Saved From House Fire BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Firefighters rescued a resident trapped instead of a burning duplex at 291 N. State Road, lohud.com reported. The fire was reported at approximately 3 p.m. The Briarcliff firefighters responded, as did Ossining, Pleasantville and Chappaqua and other fire departments and EMS crews, according to lohud.com.
