I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia,  all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Activists Hold Vigil For Samuel Harrell, Killed In Prison DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. – Friends, family, and local officials held a peaceful march on Wednesday, Oct. 21, as they marched towards Fishkill Prison, as a vigil for Samuel Harrell who died after a beating at the prison, reported Time-Warner Cable News. The activists called for an end to what they called pervasive brutality, and for accountability. Family members have filed suit, alleging that 20 officers beat Harrell while he was handcuffed. Ethical Cultural Society Screens 'Living On One Dollar' WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Ethical Culture Society of Westchester is showing a documentary, "Living on One Dollar," on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 Saxon Wood Road in White Plains. The film is about two economics students trying to live on $1 a day in rural Guatemala, just as many of their neighbors do. Approximately 1.2 billion people around the world live on $1 a day or less.
