Norwalk Residents Invited To Speak Out On Proposed Apartment Building
NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday, Jan. 20, on a new 69-unit residential building. The proposed project is in a mixed use development (District 1, Block 35, Lot 21). Any interested person can attend the meeting and speak, or submit written testimony. The development proposed by 587 Connecticut Ave. LLC would include 69 apartments — 40 one-bedroom and 29 studio units, which would range in size from 546 to 715 square feet. GREENWICH, Conn. -- Stanwich School, located in Greenwich, will be having its winter open house on Thursday, Jan. 21. The school is inviting families of kids from pre-K -- beginning at age 3 -- up to 12th grade. HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- Haverstraw resident John W. Freeman Sr. died on Wednesday, Jan. 13. he was 88. He was born to William and Agnes (Lynch) Freeman on June 30, 1927, and raised in Haverstraw. Freeman was a World War II Navy veteran. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Yankees and Navy football, but he loved Notre Dame football. He is survived by his children John Jr., Mary-Lee, Elizabeth, Richard and Robert; nine grandchildren; a sister Maureen Phillips; and brothers, William, Patrick and Richard. PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Pearl River resident Mary M. (Murray) Bateman died on Thursday, Jan. 14. She was 84. She was born in the Bronx in 1931 to Mae and Patrick Murray. Bateman was a champion Irish step dancer in her youth. She earned numerous medals while performing and competing in various feiseanna including the first Irish Feis held in Chicago in 1945. She began her career at R.H. Donnelley before moving to Pearl River where she was a teacher’s assistant at St. Margaret’s School for more than 25 years and later worked at Insurance Services Office.
