Indian Point's Unit 3 Returns To Service BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- Entergy announced Tuesday afternoon that Unit 3 of Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in Buchanan has been returned to service following a shutdown Monday night. The unit shutdown following the failure of an electrical switch in a switchyard external to the plant, according to Patricia Kakridas, nuclear communications for Entergy. The switchyard is located across the street from Indian Point and receives electricity generated by the plant before distributing it out to the electrical grid, Kakridas said. Indian Point Unit 3 Shuts Down Following Electrical Disturbance BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- Entergy announced that Unit 3 of Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in Buchanan was shut down on Monday night following an electrical disturbance external to the plant.  The unit automatically shut down following the incident, which occurred at 7:20 p.m., according to Jerry Nappi, manager of nuclear communications at Entergy.  Nappi said the shutdown was a protective measure and did not know the cause of the external electrical disturbance.
