An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Yorktown Student Overcomes Cancer, Gets College Degree YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- A Yorktown Heights student who battled cancer recently received her college diploma.Diana Pernicano was one of 618 students who received their diplomas at the Mount Saint Mary College Commencement in Newburgh on Saturday almost four years after she was diagnosed with cancer. Pernicano found a lump in her neck during a hands-on lesson in a nursing class that she credits with saving her life. Motorist Flees Scene After Hitting Woman In Jefferson Valley, Police Say YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- A Jefferson Valley man was arrested and charged Monday afternoon after Yorktown police say he hit a pedestrian at 3651 Lee Blvd. and then intentionally left the scene. Mohammad Almuher, 39, was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Auto Accident, a Class A Misdemeanor. Police said the victim sustained a physical injury and that Almuher intentionally fled following the accident. Police were able to locate Almuher, where he was brought back to headquarters for processing. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in Yorktown Justice Court…

Bernard Curran, 87, Former Chappaqua Resident Bernard “Bernie” Francis Curran of Newtown, Conn. and previously of Dallas and Chappaqua, died May 15, with a large contingent of his family by his side, after a five-year battle with lymphoma.  He was born August 1, 1929, in West Orange, NJ, eldest son of the late Jean (Monaghan) and Bernard H. Westchester Community College Graduates More Than 2,000 The graduates of Westchester Community College are ready for their next chapter. More than 2,000 students were granted degrees at the college's annual commencement ceremony last Thursday at the Westchester County Center in White Plains. The class was the largest in the college's history. Lowell Hawthorne, a Pocantico Hills resident and president and CEO of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill delivered the commencement address, encouraging the graduates to dream big.
