I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia, all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

New Rochelle Chamber's Annual Award Dinner Ends With Surprise NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce hosted its 13th annual Women of Excellence Award Dinner on Oct. 1.Every year, the Chamber of Commerce awards a the Muriel Zaukus Scholarship to an outstanding high school girl. This year's scholarship went to Jhinnele Walker. One of the other honorees, Judith Huntington, surprised everyone in the room by offering Walker a full scholarship to the College of New Rochelle, of which Huntington is president. The development has 21 estates, from two to five acres each. Home prices will range from $5 to $25 million dollars. Greystone on Hudson is 13 miles from Manhattan and is part of the high-ranking Irvington School District.

Nyack Will Celebrate Halloween With Parade NYACK, N.Y. -- Nyack's annual Halloween parade is scheduled for Oct. 24.Based on the parade's history of ever-larger crowds, the Nyack Chamber of Commerce expects more than 20,000 spectators. Participants and floats will assemble at 3 p.m. in Memorial Park for a costume contest.
