Newtown Police Seek Jeep That Fled Traffic Stop NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Newtown Police are asking for the public's help finding a Jeep that fled a traffic stop on Wednesday night. Police are looking for an older model, white or silver Jeep Grand Cherokee, possibly from 1999 to 2004. The vehicle evaded an officer during a motor vehicle stop at around 9:48 p.m. on Wednesday, police said. The Jeep was traveling eastbound on Route 34 in Newtown in the area of Sherman Street. Norwalk Concert To Benefit Hurricane Harvey Victims NORWALK, Conn. -- A concert will be held at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk next Wednesday to raise money for people impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Tim Currie's Motown Review Band will perform at the benefit concert, which has been dubbed, "Waterfront Love." The concert is hosted by the city of Norwalk and will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Calf Pasture Beach. The city will donate all gate proceeds from 5 p.m. through closing to help those devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Expect Delays On Simpaug Turnpike In Redding Due To Roadwork REDDING, Conn. -- Drivers might want to avoid Simpaug Turnpike in Redding on Thursday due to roadwork.The Highway Department will be working on Simpaug Turnpike from Station Road to Marchant Road. The work had been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 29, but was delayed until Thursday due to unexpected contractor delays. Town officials said every effort will be made for one-way alternating traffic, but motorists are urged to use alternate routes.

Overdose Deaths Could Top 1,000 By End Of Year In Connecticut FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Accidental overdose deaths are on the rise in Connecticut, and are on track to reach more than a thousand this year, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. In the first half of 2017 there have been 539 accidental overdose deaths in Connecticut, according to a report by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. James Gill. The report projects that by the ned of the year there will be 1,078 accidental overdose deaths. Mosquitoes Trapped In Redding Test Positive For West Nile Virus REDDING, Conn. -- Mosquitoes recently trapped in Redding tested positive for West Nile virus, the Redding Health Department announced Wednesday.The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station has announced that more than 20 towns in Connecticut have had mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus, including Westport, Stratford, Shelton and Bridgeport. Mosquito Trapped In Shelton Tests Positive For West Nile Virus SHELTON, Conn. -- A mosquito trapped in Shelton this month has tested positive for West Nile virus, the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station announced this week. The mosquito was trapped in Shelton on Aug. 17. CAES maintains 91 mosquito traps in 73 towns statewide, including in Shelton. Bridgeport Man Pleads Not Guilty In Stratford Murder BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man charged with murder in connection with a shooting in Stratford in May pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday, according to the Connecticut Post. Chris Concepcion, 24, of Bridgeport pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a permit, the Connecticut Post reported. Teen Wilton Driver Accidentally Pins Mother Against Garage WILTON, Conn. — A 16-year-old Wilton driver accidentally pinned his mother against a garage when trying to back out of the driveway on Monday, according to the Hour. Police told the Hour that at around 8 a.m. the teen was trying to back out of the driveway on Mountain Road when he accidentally put the car in drive instead of reverse. Driver From Danbury Busted With PCP After Crash In Monroe MONROE, Conn. — A driver from Danbury who crashed his car into a stone wall in Monroe last week was found to have 18 bags of PCP on him, according to police. At around 8:48 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, police responded to a one-car crash on Hattertown Road where a vehicle had struck a stone wall, police said. Police said the driver, identified as 43-year-old Lavon Brigman of Danbury, appeared confused and did not know he had been involved in a car accident. Greenwich Hosts Hurricane Harvey Emergency Fundraiser Wednesday GREENWICH, Conn. -- There will be a Hurricane Harvey emergency fundraiser on Wednesday at the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department in Greenwich.The fundraiser will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Sound Beach fire station, 207 Sound Beach Ave. All of the funds raised will go to Texas rescue and relief via the Greenwich chapter of the American Red Cross and other vetted relief agencies. At this time, the fire department is not accepting donations of food, water or clothing.
