Two Rescued After Apartment Fire Breaks Out In Region Two people were rescued from a third-floor apartment in Western Massachusetts during a two-alarm fire. The fire started around 3 a.m., Monday, Dec. 27 in Springfield at 858 Belmont Ave. Springfield Fire Department officials said two people were rescued from the third floor using ladders. One of those rescued was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, another was treated at the scene, the department said. Firefighters had the fire under control in about an hour. The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is currently investigating.

Covid-19: CT To Distribute 3M At-Home Rapid Tests, 6M N95 Masks, Lamont Announces Connecticut residents will soon have access to millions of COVID-19 at-home rapid tests and N95 masks under a new plan announced by Governor Ned Lamont. The plan announced on Monday, Dec. 27, is an effort to help curb the spread of COVID-19 during the heavy travel and holiday season, Lamont said. The first allocation will include the distribution of 500,000 iHealth kits – each containing two tests for a total of one million tests – that will be designated for the general public. Woman From Region Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash A woman from the region was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Christmas Eve. Sullivan County resident Lisa Kottl, age 31, of Bloomingburg, was killed around 7:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 24, after losing control of her vehicle. According to Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, when deputies responded to the report of the crash on Route 17 in the town of Thompson, they found a 2007 Nissan Altima had hit a water diversion ditch next to the exit and rolled over. Pair Of Winning $50K Powerball Tickets Sold On Long Island Two lucky people are starting off the New Year in style after winning $50,000 each on winning Powerball tickets on Long Island. One ticket was purchased at Guinta’s Meat Farms on Portion Road in Suffolk County in Ronkonkoma and the other at MAB Finer Wines and Spirits on Merrick Avenue in Nassau County in East Meadow, according to the New York Lottery. No one won the Powerball jackpot which has grown to more than $416 million. The winning numbers were 27-29-45-55-58 and the PowerBall was 2. The Power Play was 3X. Police Identify Two Killed In Westchester Crash Police have identified two people killed in a crash in Westchester County. The crash took place just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26 on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers. According to Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police, the driver coming southbound who lost control of his vehicle was driving a 2019 Lincoln SUV. Five Juveniles Arrested After Fight Outside Mall In Fairfield County Five area juveniles were arrested following a large fight at a busy Fairfield County mall. The incident took place around 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 26, at the Westfield Trumbull Mall. That's when Trumbull Police officers patrolling the mall noticed a group of 20 to 30 teens running outside the mall and two teenage girls fighting. According to Lt. Person Dies From Injuries In Two-Vehicle Fairfield County Crash One person has died following a horrific two-vehicle crash in Fairfield County. The crash took place around 11:15 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 26, in Norwalk at the intersection of Westport Avenue and Dry Hill Road. When firefighters arrived on the scene they immediately attended to the driver of a Geo Prizm sedan who was pinned under the dashboard and had to be extricated, using multiple hydraulic tools, said Sgt. Massive Four-Alarm Westchester Fire Displaces 11 Families, Injures Firefighters More than 40 people were displaced and numerous firefighters were injured during a four-alarm multi-family housing unit fire that broke out in Westchester late in the evening on Christmas Day. The fire started around 11 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 25 at 81 Elliott Ave., in Yonkers.
