Stamford Woman Gets Prison For Using Dentist's Identity In Fraud Scheme STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford woman was sentenced to a year in prison for using a retired dentist's identity to send fake bills to insurance companies. Elena Ilizarov, 45, of Stamford was sentenced Friday to 12 months and one day of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, according to Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. 3 Charged In Fight After Trying To Steal 33 Pricey Purses In Greenwich GREENWICH, Conn. — Three people trying to steal thousands of dollars worth of purses got into a fight with a Greenwich police officer and two loss prevention officers at Saks The Vault in Greenwich on Thursday, according to Greenwich Time. The three New York suspects were spotted by a security officer at the store stealing 33 handbags, which ranged in price from $995 to $2,590, Greenwich Time reported. Oregon Man Charged In Hurricane Sandy Scam In Westport WESTPORT, Conn. -- A man was arrested in Oregon and extradited back to Connecticut, where he was charged with scamming people in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The charges against 56-year-old John Mech of Seaside, Ore., stem from 2012. During the post-Hurricane Sandy cleanup, Mech was offering to sell and install electric generators at various residences throughout Fairfield County, police said. House Sitter's Friend Charged With Stealing, Pawning Items From Monroe Home MONROE, Conn. — A Waterbury woman was charged with stealing tools and cash from a Monroe home where her friend was house sitting in August, according to police. A family returned from vacation to their Jockey Hollow Road home in August and immediately noticed "big tool items" missing from their garage and cash missing from their home, police said. Burglar Shot Breaking Into Bridgeport Home BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A burglar was shot trying to break into a home on Kossuth Street in Bridgeport on Thursday, according to the Connecticut Post. A police spokesperson told the Connecticut Post that a resident of a home on the 900 block of Kossuth Street shot the burglar during the attempted burglary. Norwalk Men Charged With Kidnapping, Assaulting Stamford Man STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Police charged a trio of Norwalk men with kidnapping another man who claimed to have bought drugs from them using fake money, according to the Stamford Advocate.
