Danbury Director Of Veteran Affairs Receives Warrior Award At Walk Of Honor DANBURY, Conn. -- Danbury presented veteran U.S. Army Specialist Daniel Hayes Jr. with the Warrior Award at the 10th annual Walk of Honor this past Sunday. Hayes served in Operation Desert Storm and was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement on March 15, 1991. While maneuvering behind enemy lines, Hayes’s unit faced friendly fire and at the same time learned that there were dismounted enemy infantry all around their position. Wallets, Cash Taken From Cars In Smash-And-Grab Burglaries In Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- Someone smashed the windows of three cars parked on Post Road in Darien last week and stole wallets, purses, cash and other items, police said. Officers were dispatched to the area of 800 Post Road at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 on the report of three smash-and-grab motor vehicle burglaries. The owner of a 2010 Acura MDX reported that she had been in the Bar Method studio between 7:30 p.m. and 8:20 p.m., and that when she returned to her car she discovered that the left rear window had been smashed and her wallet was now missing from the floor. Man With BB Gun Taken Into Custody In Norwalk NORWALK, Conn. -- Police apprehended a man with a BB gun on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk on Tuesday afternoon. Police had received reports of a man with a gun in the area of 444 Connecticut Ave. at around 1:20 p.m. Officers responded to the area and located a man in possession of a BB gun. The man was taken into custody. Police said on Twitter that nobody was injured and that the area was safe and secure. This story is developing. Woman Attempts To Cash Stolen Checks At Darien Bank DARIEN, Conn. -- A woman tried to cash a pair of stolen checks at a bank in Darien last week, police said. At around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, a woman pulled up to the drive up teller kiosk at the People's Bank in the Goodwives Shopping Center and tried to cash two checks. Both checks were in the $1,000 range and were made out to in the name of the same person, police said. The person attempting to cash the checks was described as a white female in her mid-30s to early 40s with dark hair and wearing a gray shirt, police said. Police: Waterbury Man Led Cops On I-84 Chase In Car Stolen From Ridgefield RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- A Waterbury man was arrested after police said he led state troopers on a pursuit in a car that had been stolen out of Ridgefield. At around 11 p.m. on Monday, Connecticut State Police Troop A in Southbury received multiple calls of a dark-colored Audi that was driving erratically on I-84 westbound near exit 26. The license plate given by callers did not match the vehicle description, police said. Prank Caller Claiming To Have Hostages Sends Police To Stamford Home STAMFORD, Conn. -- Police responded to a Cedar Heights Road in Stamford on Monday night after a prank caller reported a shooting and claimed to have taken hostages with an assault rifle, according to the Stamford Advocate. Rifle Found In Road Turns Out To Be BB Gun, Darien Police Say DARIEN, Conn. -- A rifle found in the road near Ox Ridge Lane in Darien last week turned out to just be a BB gun, police said. Officers were dispatched to Hollow Tree Ridge Road in the area of Ox Ridge Lane at around 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9 on a report of what appeared to be a rifle in the road. When they arrived, it was determined that it was a Daisy "Red Rider" BB gun, police said. Police said that there is nothing to suggest the BB gun was involved in any criminal activity. Anyone with information on the BB gun is asked to contact the Darien Police Department.

Easton Residents Report Scam Calls From Fake 'Sheriff's Office' EASTON, Conn. -- Easton Police are warning about a scammer calling people and claiming to be from a "sheriff's office." The police department has received a few complaints about the phone scam. A resident reported receiving a call from the "Fairfield County Sheriff's Office," stating that they had a warrant for her arrest due to missing jury duty. Driver Of Car Without Plates Busted On Drug Charge In Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man caught driving without a front license plate in Darien was arrested after crack cocaine was found on him, according to police. At around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, an officer spotted a green Volkswagen Golf driving on Middlesex Road without a front license plate, and a rear license plate that was found to be not on file with the DMV, according to police. Cash Reported Stolen From 83-Year-Old's Locker At Wilton YMCA WILTON, Conn. -- An 83-year-old member of the Wilton YMCA reported that someone stole cash out of his wallet that was in his locker last week. On Tuesday, Oct. 10 the man called the police to report that the lock on his locker had been broken and that $200 in cash had been taken from his wallet. The theft had taken place between 2:26 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. No other items were taken, and no other lockers were reported to have been broken into, police said.
