Five 'Rose Ruse' Home Burglaries Probed In Fairfax County: Police Authorities in Fairfax County are investigating a series of home burglaries that begin with a woman holding a bouquet of roses. The first incident happened on Dec. 28 on the 900 hundred block of Dominion Reserve Drive in McLean, police said. In four of the incidents, a woman approaches the home with flowers and knocks on the door. When no one answers, she returns to an awaiting vehicle. 'Arctic Blast:' Snow, Ice To Threaten Northeast After Windy, Rainy Start To Weekend Forecasters are tracking two more storms in the coming days: One bringing heavy rain and wind, the other snow and ice to the Northeast. Propane-Fueled Explosion Causes $100K In Damages To St. Mary's Business: State Fire Marshal A small gas explosion brought a dozen firefighters to a Maryland business early Wednesday, Jan. 10, officials said. An alarm company was alerted by a motion detector at Callahan's Gas & Appliance on N. Commerce Street in Centreville around 7:35 a.m., the State Fire Marshal's Office said. Sliding RV Kills Mechanic, 29, At New Jersey Garage: Police A 29-year-old mechanic was killed over the weekend when an RV slid off jack stands and crushed him at a New Jersey garage, authorities said. The unidentified mechanic from Freehold was working at GasTime on West Commodore Boulevard in Jackson around 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, when the vehicle came off the jack stand and down on him,Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz said. Body In 'Suspicious Vehicle' In Field Shuts Frederick County Roadway: Sheriff A man's body found in a vehicle brought a heavy police presence to a Frederick County roadway on Wednesday, Jan. 10, the sheriff's office said. Detective Posing As Teen Online Busts Sex-Seeking Man, 58, In Frederick County: Sheriff A 50-year-old Maryland man has been arrested after authorities said he preyed on a 13-year-old girl — who actually turned out to be an undercover detective — online.
