New Hempstead Yeshiva Seeking Approvals After Operating Without Permits
NEW HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – A New Hempstead yeshiva is looking for approval to keep operating a school after discovering that the property doesn't have the necessary permits, according to lohud.com. Mesivta Ahavas Hatorah has operated a boys’ religious school on the property for about three years, lohud.com said. It was discovered that the property had not been given the necessary permits to operate as a school dating back 10 years and to the previous owners, reported lohud.com. Pelham High Senior Reads Speech At Graduation
PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham High School senior Sabina Maggiore was one of two seniors who were able to read a speech they had written during last month's graduation ceremony. Maggiore's "Azucar" was chosen by a panel of faculty and staff, and she read it during the ceremony on June 25. The speech can be read in full at the Pelham School District's website at this link.

White Plains Approves $1 Million For Library Renovation
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – White Plains is allocating $1 million to the city's public library as part of ongoing renovations, according to lohud.com. The money was approved during the Common Council meeting July 5, lohud.com said. Renovations are expected to cost about $2.4 million, and the city was challenged to match an anonymous benefactor's $1 million donation to the project in October, reported lohud.com. Staples HS Senior In Westport Signs To Play Football At UConn
WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High School senior Ryan Fitton signed a letter of intent with the University of Connecticut to play college football in 2017, according to the Westport News. Fitton, a tight end for the Wreckers, will be the first Staples player at UConn since Sean Mulachy in 2001, the Westport News said. He is coming off of a 22-catch, 279-yard season with the Wreckers, including a pair of touchdowns, reported the Westport News. Read the Westport News article here.

McNeil Takes Over As Stratford Police Chief
STRATFORD, Conn. – Joe McNeil took over as Stratford police chief on Monday morning, according to the Stratford Star. McNeil was sworn in during a ceremony at City Hall, along with John Popik as deputy chief, the Stratford Star said. He plans to expand the police force to a full staff of 110 officers from its current 98, reported the Stratford Star. Brookfield Police Looking For Owner Of Lost Dog
BROOKFIELD, Conn. – The Brookfield Police Department is looking for the owner of a lost dog. This dog was found in the area of Pocono Ridge Road and West Whisconier Road over the weekend. FAIRFIELD, Conn.. – After 20 years of serving up its own home brews along with other bottled and draft favorites, the SBC Restaurant and Brewery in Southport has shut its doors, according to a post on its Facebook page. Norwalk Police Take Part In Water Safety Day At Calf Pasture Beach
NORWALK, Conn. – Members of the Norwalk Police Department joined Stew Leonard III Children's Charities and the City of Norwalk's Recreation Department to take part in the third annual Water Safety Day on Saturday at Calf Pasture Beach.
