I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia, all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Stamford Man Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter In 2014 Halloween Crash STAMFORD, Conn. – Police charged a 27-year-old Stamford man with vehicular in a drunken-driving collision in the early morning after Halloween 2014, according to the Stamford Advocate. At 2:30 a.m. Nov. 1, 2014, Jose Sierra-Velasquez hit several people standing on the on-ramp of Exit 7 of I-95 in Stamford after an earlier collision, police told the Advocate. Judge Sentences Spring Valley Man In Rape, Murder ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- District Attorney Thomas Zugibe announced a judge has sentenced Juan Perez-Coira to 25 years to life in prison.A bench trial convicted the 45-year-old Perez-Coira of two counts of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree attempted sexual criminal act and one count of first-degree attempted rape. Rockland County Legislature Could Face Changes After Election ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Every four years, every seat in the Rockland County Legislature comes up for election, lohud reported. Currently, the legislature has 12 Democrats and 5 Republicans. Nine of the 17 seats are contested, in Tuesday's election, so the majority could change, which would affect upcoming major votes. Westchester Airport 'Gate Guardian' Plane Gets Restored WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The Gate Guardian, also known as “The Plane on a Stick” at the Westchester County Airport, is in a body shop, getting a fresh paint job and whatever else it needs to be in prime condition, lohud reported. On Oct. 15, airport officials sent the plane for restoration, as their contract requires, lohud reported. The National Naval Aviation Museum owns the airplane, a T-33 or "T-Bird,” and lends it to the Westchester County Airport on the condition that the airport maintains the plane. Clarkstown School Bond Proposal Will Not Increase Taxes, District Says NEW CITY, N.Y. -- The Clarkstown Central School District reported good news from the Facilities Improvement Committee.The major areas of concern have been roofs, boilers, and electrical systems. Once the school district applies state aid, the bond can be paid for with funds already in the budget. No increase in the budget or community taxes would be necessary. The impact of this bond would be budget neutral, the district said.

Rockland Candidates Can Run On Women's Equality Party Ballot ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Candidates running on the Women's Equality Party will remain on the ballot despite a challenge from Republican Election Commissioner Butch Babcok and County GOP Chair Lawrence Garvey, Time Warner News reported.In September, both the Democratic and Republican election commissions approved the Women's Equality Party to be on the ballot, but Babock later decided approval was the wrong decision, the story said. Police Charge Wappinger Man With Drug Possession WAPPINGER, N.Y. – State Police arrested Kyle T. Cowan, 21, of Wappinger, for criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, a Violation, according to the New York State Poice. On Oct. 22, police stopped Cowan for operating a vehicle with an inadequate exhaust system. The police reported that they found Xanax and marijuana while investigating. Cowan is due to appear before the Town of Wappinger Court on Nov. 19.
