I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia, all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Pound Ridge Library Presents DVD On Sustainable Living POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The Pound Ridge Library and the Pound Ridge Energy Action Committee are presenting a college-level DVD seminar, Fundamentals of Sustainable Living” given by Lonnie A. Gamble, a professor at the Maharishi University of Management, in Iowa, at the library. The seminar consists of twelve lectures, each with a 30-minute DVD, followed by an hour for discussion. The seminars are on Tuesdays from Nov. 10 through Dec. 15. Seminars start at 7 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. The focus of these lectures is home energy conservation. College Softball Coach From White Plains Recognized WHITE PLAINS, N.J. -- Dante Fedeli, from White Plains, was among faculty and staff who have reached anniversary milestones at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Pleasantville's Athletes Warehouse Features Weightlifting Match PLEASANTVILL, N.Y. – Athletes Warehouse will present its second weightlifting competition, "War of Westchester," on Saturday, Nov. 14. Teen In Cop Costume Charged With Sex Assault At Sacred Heart U. Party FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A teenager dressed up as a cop was arrested on sexual assault charges after groping a female student at a Halloween party at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, police said. Frank Anthony Sapienza, 19, of the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault after a female victim reported that he had unwanted sexual contact with her, kissing and groping her at a party Saturday, police said. Rockland DA Says 25 People Stole $160K In Unemployment Benefits ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. – Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe announced his office had charged 25 people with illegally collecting unemployment benefits worth more than $160,000. The alleged thefts occurred between 2010-15. Zugibe said: “The defendants are accused of trying to scam the system by collecting unemployment benefits to which they were not entitled because they were, in fact, living in a foreign country. Feds Say Evidence Supports East Ramapo School Bias Claims EAST RAMAPO, N.Y. -- The U.S. Department of Education has determined that there is evidence that claims of racial discrimination in the East Ramapo school district are founded, and the department will closely monitor an agreement with the district to address these claims, as reported by lohud.
