Newark Man Convicted Of Killing His Cousin: Prosecutor
A 30-year-old Newark man faces up to 20 years in prison after was found guilty on Thursday, Feb. 22 of fatally shooting his cousin in 2018, authorities said. In Sept. 2018, Assalaam Garnes shot Shakill Springer, a 24-year-old Newark resident outside his home following a verbal argument, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. Garnes was later arrested with the weapon a few weeks later, Stephens said. Garnes was convicted of manslaughter and multiple weapons charges, Stephens said. Garnes will be sentenced in April, Stephens said.

Suspended Driver Arrested In Valentine's Day Nutley Hit-Run That Killed Paterson Man: Cops
An arrest has been made in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a 22-year-old Paterson man and injured another person. Dhkir Robinson, 42, is believed to have been behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck Winston Perlaza and a second victim Wednesday evening, Feb. 14 on Milton Avenue in Nutley, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Nutley Police Chief Thomas Strumolo said. Newark Man Convicted Of Murder After Shooting 31-Year-Old Victim Eight Times: Prosecutors
A 31-year-old Newark man was convicted of first degree murder on Friday, Jan. 26 for a drive-by shooting in 2019, authorities said. On May 13, 2019, Kenneth Thomas, a 31-year-old Newark resident was gunned down by Ryan Mwangi eight times while sitting in his car, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. A 20-year-old Newark resident was fatally shot on Wednesday, Jan. 24, authorities said. At 6:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. A 28-year-old Newark man was sentenced to 70 years in state prison for a 2019 murder, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II announced. In Feb. 2019, while dealing cocaine and heroin near a Newark public housing complex, Watson got a gun, walked toward Fred Sims, a 29-year-old Newark resident, and shot him in the head, Stephens said.
