A fire ripped through the home of a Fairfield County town official, leaving the residence uninhabitable. The incident occurred in Ridgefield at the home of Town Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Robert Hendrick around 10:30 p.m., Thursday, March 21, on East Ridge Road. A Fairfield County firefighter was taken to the hospital and 14 residents were left homeless following a two-alarm house fire. The blaze started in Danbury just after 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17 on Locust Avenue. Arriving firefighters found a 3-story, multi-family home with heavy smoke emitting from multiple sides, said Capt. A driver escaped serious injury after his sedan plowed into a pump and burst into flames at a Route 46 gas station. The 32-year-old driver from Englewood lost control of the two-door Infiniti, which crashed at the QuickCheck on the westbound highway -- near the entrances to Route 80 and the New Jersey Turnpike -- at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, Ridgefield Fire Chief David Brierty said. A Fairfield County home was heavily damaged during a fire overnight as snow continued to come down in the area that received more than 18 inches of snow. The fire took place around 11:08 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 6 Sage Road, in the Lake Waubeeka area of Danbury, said James Gagliardo, communications director for the Danbury Fire Department. Two special young boys will be treated to a parade of first responders this Sunday in Waldwick, thanks to Pink Heals of Bergen County. Both Cole McKeon of Waldwick and Austin “AJ” Katchen of Cliffside Park were diagnosed months apart last year with Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that attacks certain types of nerve tissue. Three varsity baseball coaches at Ridgefield High School have been placed on administrative leave after extreme measures were taken to try and squeeze in a high school baseball game. Some baseball fans had a burning desire to watch the Ridgefield High School team play baseball, so they set a local field on fire using gasoline in an attempt to dry the surface, police said. A three-alarm fire heavily damaged a Danbury deli. The Danbury 911 center received multiple calls stating that a large amount of smoke was billowing from the Marcello's Deli and Catering near Lake Avenue and Hobson Street late in the evening on Monday, Jan. 14. Responders Rescue 100+ From Flooded Fairview Industrial Park
Firefighters rescued more than 100 people from a flooded Fairview industrial park on Tuesday. Responders used a backhoe and a High Water Rescue Vehicle brought by Ridgefield firefighters to evacuate the industrial park at 815 Fairview Avenue, Fairview Police Chief Martin Kahn said. Rain swelled creeks fed by the Hackensack River, flooding the area just off Broad Avenue.

Quick Work Of Firefighters Saves South Salem Home
Quick action by firefighters from the Vista and South Salem fire departments saved a family's home following a basement fire. The fire started around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 87 East St., in South Salem, according to Vista Fire Chief Jeff Peck. Once on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from inside the home and quickly determined the fire was coming from the basement.
