A man's life was saved thanks to the quick action of two officers who tended to his severe injury after he was struck by a vehicle in Westchester. The incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 26 just before 4:30 a.m., when two Mount Vernon Police officers responded to the corner of Union Avenue and East 3rd Street on a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car. A player had just collapsed at New Milford's new softball field when police arrived and found an off-duty nurse tending to him. He wasn't breathing and had no pulse, Police Chief Brian Clancy said. A man was pulled from a popular lake after first responders in Fairfield County were dispatched for a report of a drowning. The incident took place in Brookfield around 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 16, when Brookfield Fire and EMS were dispatched to Blueberry Island for a reported drowning on Candlewood Lake, the department said. A 28-year-old mother is in critical condition after trying to save her children in the ocean in South Jersey, authorities said. Three North Jersey officers are being hailed as heroes for performing life-saving measures on a man at a local gun range. Secaucus officer Philip Caruso found the 59-year-old victim without a pulse and not breathing when he arrived at Long Shot Gun Range around 8:30 a.m. June 12, Chief Dennis Miller said. New York State Police are honoring one of their own for saving a small child who was not breathing. During the incident, which took place last week, Trooper David Sabillon of Troop K, responded to a Dutchess County supermarket in the town of LaGrange for a report of an unresponsive child.
