At 1:30 p.m., police responded to Criger's Services on Lane Road on a report of two men who had arrived at the tow yard, which contains impounded vehicles, officers said in a release. The two men had arrived at the impound yard to retrieve personal belongings from a car that had been towed there, police said. Fairfield Fire: Blaze Engulfs Commercial Building Firefighters battled an overnight fire that broke out at a Fairfield building overnight. The blaze erupted just after 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at Ray Place, local police said. By the time firefighters were on scene, the fire had fully engulfed the building. Firefighters from Montclair, Pine Brook, North Caldwell, Caldwell, West Caldwell, Nutley, Cedar Grove, Lincoln Park, Wayne, and Roseland responded or provided mutual aid. The cause has not been identified.

Scott Bartlett, age 61, of Fairfield, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday, Dec. 1, suspended after five years and five years of probation, said Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin. As part of his plea agreement, Bartlett, the disgraced superintendent for Fairfield, is also required to make restitution payments of $1 million to the town for the harm caused. Woman With Active Warrant Taken Into Custody In Wilton A 25-year-old woman was arrested by Wilton Police on an active warrant while being interviewed in connection with another case.  Rachel Ragone, of Kings Park, was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 6, after police learned she was wanted an active warrant for failure to appear for automobile charges in 2016 in Fairfield, said Wilton Police Lt. Robert Kluk. She was processed and released on $1,000 bond. Ragone is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 16.
