Fire Doused At Hackensack Company That Makes Hand Sanitizer Stands Hackensack firefighters made quick work of a Wednesday morning blaze at a company that makes metal stands for hand sanitizers used in medical facilities, among other products. The call to the Testrite plant on South Newman Street came in at 8:17 a.m. after the fire broke out in a malfunctioning dust-collecting machine, city firefighters said. The sprinkler system knocked down the main body of the blaze, they said. Firefighters evacuated the building, then vented it after dousing the flames. EMS evaluated a worker at the scene. Testrite has been in business a little over 100 years.

EMT Injured In Norwalk Hospital Explosion An EMT was injured when an oxygen tank exploded on a patient's gurney at Norwalk Hospital. The explosion was reported around 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 21, to the Norwalk Fire Department as a fire in the emergency room, said Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief Edward Prescott. When firefighters arrived they learned that an oxygen cylinder/regulator exploded on a transport gurney, Prescott said. Pedestrian, 77, Struck In Englewood By 84-Year-Old SUV Driver Sustains Head Injury A 77-year-old pedestrian was hospitalized with a severe head injury after she was struck by an SUV driven by an 84-year-old motorist in Englewood late Tuesday afternoon. Officers Adolfo Gutierrez and Dona Nidelko began rendering aid to the victim, who was struck just before 5 p.m. at West Palisade Avenue and Cottage Place, Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. They were relieved by EMS personnel, who took her to Hackensack Medical Center, the deputy chief said. The SUV driver remained at the scene and wasn’t charged – although Halstead noted that the investigation was continuing.
