5 Middlesex County High Schools Rank Among Best In State In New U.S. News Report
A new U.S. News and World Report study ranked the top 10 Massachusetts public and charter high schools and crowned those who are best in class. The publication released the new state rankings on Tuesday, Aug. 29, grading schools on graduation rates, college readiness, and teacher-to-student ratio. Boston Latin School led the pack in Massachusetts with a graduation rate of 98 percent and a college readiness rating of 94.4. The school also ranked as one of the 50 best in the nation. State Closes Newark Charter School With 2 Weeks Left
State officials have closed a Newark charter school with just two weeks left in the year, officials announced. The nearly 700 students at University Heights Charter School (UCHS), a pre-K-8 public charter school in Newark, were told on June 1, the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association said Friday, June 3. As Camden shifts classroom instruction from public to more privately-operated charter and renaissance schools the city has had trouble maintaining diversity among its teaching staff, a new report found. City of Camden officials say they can no longer afford to teach less than 6,350 students at 19 different schools, in a district that used to educate nearly double that. The Elysian Charter School in Hoboken closed last Friday after the case was reported, NJ.com says. Supporters of a local charter school spent $7 million to purchase the building that houses the academic program. Friends of Baystate Academy Charter Public School in Springfield purchased the school’s building at 2001 Roosevelt Ave. in June, but was only recently announced. The building had been owned by Polman Realty LLC.
