Frozen Hydrants Challenge Firefighters In Wanaque Basement Blaze Ignited By Lithium Battery
A Wanaque homeowner required EMS attention for smoke inhalation after a lithium battery ignited a fierce basement fire, authorities said. The basement on Ramapo Mountain Drive was fully involved when firefighters arrived shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, they said. Frozen hydrants left the first two engines just about tapped, with the blaze extending to the first floor, when mutual aid came through, responders said. That included firefighters from Pompton Lakes, Ringwood and Bloomingdale. A Passaic County hazardous materials unit also was requested.

Firefighter, 2 Others Injured In Blaze At Larchmont Eatery
A basement fire at a popular Westchester eatery resulted in three people being injured, including a firefighter who was hospitalized. The incident happened on Wednesday, Nov. 8 just after 10 a.m., when the Larchmont Fire Department responded to an active basement fire at Bagels by Sofia located at 145 Chatsworth Ave. According to the department, arriving crews found plenty of smoke pouring from the eatery and upon entering, discovered heavy flames in the basement. Six Birds Evacuated In Two-Alarm Blaze: Linden Police
Nobody was injured after a two-alarm fire began in the basement of a home in Linden on Monday, Oct. 30, police said. Firefighters and police responded to the 500 block of Maple Avenue on reports of a structure fire and discovered the basement blaze in a multi-family home, police said. Two occupants and several pets, including six birds, were safely evacuated, police said. Multiple roadways in the area remain closed and residents are encouraged to avoid the area, police said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in a basement in Hillsborough. Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1 responded Tuesday night, Feb. 7, along with the other district fire companies and surrounding mutual aid partners for a fire on Tall Oak Lane. A late morning basement fire sent firefighters in droves to a home in Northern Westchester. On Sunday, Jan. 8, around 11:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a residence in Peekskill on Crompond Road (Route 202) after smoke was seen coming out of the two-and-a-half-story home. At Least One Injured In Early Morning Rockville Basement Fire
At least one person is injured following an early morning basement fire in Rockville, authorities say. Firefighters arrived to the home in the 11700 block of Rocking Horse Road after reports of a fire in a single family home, around 6 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. Authorities were able to extinguish the flames, that evacuated one man and one woman who were inside of the home. The man was transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. A Maryland home suffered extensive damage when a basement fire broke out, state officials announced. In Carroll County, nearly four dozen firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Colonel Joshua Court in Westminster at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, where there was a reported fire in a two-story, single-family home. No serious injuries were immediately reported after Paterson firefighters doused a basement fire in a multi-family home Saturday morning. Firefighters had the main body of the fire in the three-story Hamilton Avenue building knocked down within minutes after it broke out around 11 a.m. It was under control in roughly a half hour.
