Police have identified the innocent driver killed by a wrong-way car thief during a police pursuit on I-695 earlier this week. Dimeka Thornton, 37, of Windsor Mill, was operating an Acura TSX when she was struck by a driver in a stolen car in the outer loop, on the ramp to Exit 18 to Liberty Road around 12:15 a.m. Monday, April 8, the Maryland Attorney General's Office said in a release. 'Washed' Stolen Sedan For Sale Doesn't Fool Passaic Sheriff's Detectives
A Bronx man who brought a stolen car for sale to Paterson got jailed instead, Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said. Those involved apparently took multiple steps to "wash" the 2021 Acura TSX's particular identifying information, the sheriff said. In order to deceive unsuspecting buyers, a bogus title to the car was obtained from the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission, Berdnik said. Phony license and VIN plates replaced the originals, he added. A nonprofit in Connecticut suffered an estimated $30,000 loss after 15 catalytic converters were stolen from its fleet vans. Authorities were looking for a driver who took off after fatally striking a pedestrian overnight Tuesday, Feb. 15 in Allentown.
