Tests Find High Lead Levels In 19 New Rochelle School Fountains, Sinks
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – With the start of the 2016-17 academic year just days off, water fountains and sinks at another set of New Rochelle schools have been closed because of elevated lead levels, according to lohud.com. Students and staff at six elementary schools in New Rochelle will be using bottled water and water coolers when classes begin next week after results from tests conducted this summer revealed water from 19 fountains and sinks in the buildings contained lead levels that exceeded the limits allowed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, according to lohud.com. Croton DWI Suspect Charged With Setting Fire At Peekskill Police Station
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A Croton man was charged with drunken driving and arson recently after setting a fire inside police headquarters with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit, according to city police.Bruce Phillips was pulled over on Main Street after an officer saw him driving erratically about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, according to police. South Salem House Fire Extinguished By Owner, Contractors
SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The quick work of a homeowner and some contractors prevented what could have been a serious fire at a Harbor Place home on Friday, according to fire officials.Volunteers from the South Salem Fire Department were called to the house about 2 p.m. and arrived to find the homeowner and the contractors outside saying that there had been a fire in the rear, exterior section of the house, but that they had quickly extinguished it, officials said.
