Police Probe Reports Of ATVs Being Driven On Rockland Roadways
After receiving complaints from residents of ATVs being driven on area roadway, one Rockland County police department is reminding riders it's illegal to do so. The Orangetown Police Department is offering some background information on the laws surrounding riding ATVs in an effort to help riders avoid tickets or have their vehicles impounded. According to the department: You can't operate an ATV on a highway unless it is posted and designated for ATV use by the state. You may not operate an ATV on public land unless it is specifically designated for ATV use. A parent or guardian may not …

ATV Rider Seriously Hurt In Monmouth County Crash
An unidentified ATV rider was seriously hurt on Tuesday evening, authorities said. Howell police and township emergency services responded about 7 p.m. on Tuesday to a crash in which a person crashed while riding a quad, police said. The crash occurred off of Tyrpak Road northbound near West Farms Road. Howell police officers located an injured man deep in the wooded area, they said. Newark Police Captain Injured By Hit-Run ATV Driver
A Newark police captain was on foot when he was struck and injured by a hit-and-run ATV driver, authorities said. The crash happened at 15 Coeyman St., around 4 p.m. Monday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. The unidentified captain who works in the 2nd Precinct was treated at the scene. Unconfirmed reports say the ATV driver abandoned the damaged ATV and fled on foot with his helmet on. The incident was under investigation. The ATV driver remained at large as of Tuesday.

Responders: 2 Men On ATV Hit By Train In East Rutherford End Up In Creek
Two Hasbrouck Heights men were injured Sunday afternoon when their ATV was struck by an NJ Transit train in East Rutherford, authorities said. One of the men tumbled into Berry's Creek near the Route 3 bridge and the other went in after him, responders said. Both were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, they said. Have You Seen Him? Lakehurst Police Search For Reckless ATV Driver
Police are looking for an ATV driver who fled them near Lakehurst Elementary School while children were being dismissed, authorities said. The incident happened about 2:45 p.m. Monday, Lakehurst police said on Facebook. Police saw the ATV heading east on Union Avenue and police tried to stop the operator of the ATV, but the driver took off, eluding police at about 70 mph, causing "a public safety hazard," they wrote.
