This Week's Millbury Basketball Roundup

MILLBURY, Mass. ‒ It was a mixed bag for Millbury basketball this week as the girls teams won three in a row while the boys teams dropped all four games.

The Millbury girls basketball team improved its record to 5-2 on the season with the win streak.

On Thursday, Jan. 3, the Woolies rolled easily over Bartlett, 53-14, with Payton Bruegger leading the team with 11 points.

The Woolies also easily topped Oxford, 56-22, on Monday, Jan. 7. Once again, Bruegger led the way with 16 points, 14 of which were in the second half.

On Thursday, the girls completed a good week by downing Northbridge, 56-43. Millbury was led by Molly McCausland, who led all scorers with 19 points, and Bruegger, who scored 14 more.

The Millbury boys basketball team had a rough week, dropping all three games and making it seven in a row dating to the beginning of the season.

On Friday, Jan. 4, the Woolies lost to Bartlett, 72-62. Millbury had the lead at half-time and were led by Nick Guaragno, who had 22 points, and Mike Woll, who had 14 more.

On Monday, Jan. 7, the Woolies lost to the Oxford Pirates, 65-51. They were down but rallied to take a third quarter lead only to see it quickly slip away. Tristan Cano led the Woolies with 15 points.

The Woolies dropped Wednesday’s game against Hopedale, 63-41, and Woll to a possible broken ankle. Guaragno led the way again with 16 points.
