MILLBURY, Mass. - The Millbury Girls Track Team won the Districts at Shrewsbury High on Saturday morning, their first victory in the Districts since 1981.

The outcome came down to the final event, the 4x400 Relay and Coach Mike DiGangi was understandably nervous. "I was thinking, we may lose the meet by two points" he said. Millbury came into the final event leading by just four points at 85-81 and needed at least a third place finish to win the meet.

DiGangi said that the team had to put together an ad-hoc group to run the final race, so DiGangi's concerns were warranted. "The girls hadn't worked together so we were nervous but they really pulled together" DiGangi said.

Indeed they did, the girls rallied to finish second winning with a score of 93 points. The girls team still has a chance to go undefeated, with one meet remaining, an impressive feat in itself.

Millbury was once again led by their stalwarts, Brooke Nadeau won the triple jump, Gabby Prominski won the 400 hurdles and finished second in the High Jump posting a personal high of 5 feet. And Molly McCausland broke her own school record winning the Javelin with a throw of 121' 3" besting her record by two feet.

DiGangi was justifiably very proud of the team's accomplishment, "I'm so impressed not only with girls performance at this meet but with the season as well" he said. He added, "the girls really pushed hard today and every day this season and we're really proud of all of them."
