MILLBURY, Mass. — The Millbury High School boys basketball team came up short Friday night in a bid to win its second game in a row, dropping a 69-56 decision to Tantasqua Regional.
Corey Gatta led the Warriors with 18 points, 11 of which were in the first quarter. Millbury attempted to box him out on defense but Tantasqua was able to move the ball around and got balanced scoring, with Randy Harrington, John Holland and Scott Phillips each canning 11 points in the winning effort.
Nick Guaragno had another huge game for the Woolies, leading all scorers with 27 points, 20 rebounds and 13 blocks. Evan Cano scored 11 points and Mike Woll chipped in 10 for the Woolies.
On Thursday night, the Millbury High girls rolled over Tantasqua, 50-33, behind another big performance by Payton Bruegger, who led all scorers with 16 points. Breanna Winburg scored seven, and Keryn Reno, Alex Pariseau, Rebecca Thornburg and Molly McCausland each picked up five. Gabby Roberts led the Warriors with 10 points.
The girls return to action at 7 p.m. Monday at Quabog Regional in Warren. The boys are off until Wednesday night when they travel to Sutton. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
