MILLBURY, Mass. — The Millbury High School Music Department performed its 2012 Winter Concert on Thursday evening at the Millbury High School Auditorium.

The performance was conducted by Dan Ferreira, band director, and Ryan Sullivan, choral director. The auditorium was packed to capacity as residents turned out for a superb performance by the bands and choruses.

The performances mixed contemporary tunes with many Christmas favorites. The evening started with the Millbury High School Marching Band, which performed “Practically Perfect” from the Mary Poppins Broadway production.

This was followed by the Jazz Lab Ensemble, which performed “Samantha” and “A Big Band Christmas.” The Junior High Chorus was next with “Turn the World Around,” “Winterlight” and “Stodola Pampa.”

Ferreira directed the Jazz Ensemble next with “Rockin’ On Top of the World” and the “Haitian Fight Song.” After a brief intermission, the Junior High Concert Band performed the popular “Muppet Show Theme” and “Sleigh Ride.”

Sullivan then directed the Senior High Chorus in “This Ancient House” and the classic “I’ll be Home for Christmas.” The evening ended with the Senior High Concert Band playing “Music for a Celebration,” the “Concert Suite from the Polar Express,” “Galop” and “Stille Nacht.” For the finale, the band, chorus and concertgoers came together to sing the classic “Hallelujah.”

The Music Department’s next scheduled event will be at the Millbury High Auditorium as the Drama Club presents “Young Frankenstein” directed by Tom Reilly. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 8, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 9.
