MILLBURY, Mass. — The Millbury Daily Voice will recap the Top 10 news stories of the year as 2012 comes to a close.
The Town of Millbury will celebrate its bicentennial next year, and it has been working with the Bicentennial Committee to ensure the celebration will be a fitting one.
So to kick off the bicentennial events in 2012, the town put together a concert featuring the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra and a dazzling fireworks display in mid-June at Windle Field. The concert included a mixture of everything from classical music to Big Bands to Elvis, featuring soprano Jane Shivick. Audience members were up on their feet and dancing throughout the evening.
The feature of the program was Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," complete with a spectacular fireworks show and followed by various marches by John Philip Sousa. The celebration to get the bicentennial off and running was a tremendous success. The more than 2,000 people in attendance, as well as the rest of the town, were abuzz over the event for months afterward.
