MILLBURY, Mass. - Irene (Briand) Havalotti, 88, of Millbury, died on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in Lanessa Extended Care, Webster, after a short illness.
Her husband of 30 years, Joseph J. Havalotti, Sr., died in 1970.
She leaves six children: Joseph J. Havalotti, Jr., and his wife, Barbara A. (DiMarzio) Havalotti, of Millbury, Arthur P. Havalotti and his wife, Susan A. (Crogan) Havalotti, of West Stewartstown, NH, Richard Havalotti and his wife, Nancy S. (Thornburg) Havalotti, of DeLand, FL, William J. Havalotti and his wife, Deborah D. (Devault) Havalotti, of Millbury, Jo-Ann J. Bricault of Millbury, and Denise M. Foley of Webster; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Florence Podsiadlo of South Grafton and a brother, Arthur Briand of Linwood.
Born and raised in the Fisherville village of South Grafton, a daughter of the late Simon and Maria (Morin) Briand, she attended Grafton High School. She later lived in Uxbridge and again in Grafton before moving to Millbury in 1952.
Mrs. Havalotti worked as a nurse's aide at Westborough State Hospital for 21 years and retired in 1986. Prior to that, during World War II, she worked as a welder for several years at Elnar Products, South Grafton.
She was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Parish, Millbury, the Ladies Auxiliary of Charles F. Minney Post #3329, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Millbury, and the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. She enjoyed travel, casinos, bingo, playing cards, crocheting and knitting; but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
Mrs. Havalotti's funeral will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Millbury, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Catholic Church, 59 Main St. After the Mass, she will be buried beside her beloved husband in Central Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m.
