Obituary: Donna L. (Gain) Cournoyer, 57

MILLBURY, Mass. — Donna L. (Gain) Cournoyer, 57, was stricken ill at her home in Millbury and died at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester on Friday, May 6, 2011.

She left her husband of 32 years, Richard P. Cournoyer; two sons Richard P. Cournoyer of Ft. Lauderdale FL; and Todd R. Cournoyer and his wife Mary C. Cournoyer of South Grafton; two granddaughters: Amanda N. Cournoyer and Sara L Cournoyer both of South Grafton; her mother R. Dolores (Beli) Gain of Millbury; three sisters Tammy M. Lizzotte of Whitinsville, Lisa A. Booth of Northbridge, Karen B. Talbot of Millbury; three brothers: William B. Gain III of Douglas, Stephen L. Gain of Worcester, and Jon P. Gain of Millbury; and many aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. Her father, William B. Gain, Jr. of Millbury, died in 2003.

Donna was born in Worcester on October 7, 1953, and though she lived briefly in Grafton and Sutton, Millbury was her home for most of her life. She was a 1971 graduate of Millbury Memorial High School.

Donna worked for many years as a staffing coordinator at several area nursing homes, most recently St. Francis Home, Worcester until health issues forced her to retire in 2009.

For many years, softball was her passion. She was president of the Millbury Jack Benny Softball League for over 20 years. She was also a coach in the Grafton Sunday Morning Men's Softball League for several years. She pitched and played shortstop in the Grafton Women's Semi-Fast Softball League.

She enjoyed reading, crosswords, Sudoku, movies, bowling and Patriots football. She was a member of the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Parish, Millbury.
