Obituary: David Lee Gilbert, Sr., Vietnam War Vet

MILLBURY, Mass. - David Lee Gilbert, Sr., 59, formerly of Millbury, died on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 after a brief illness.

He leaves his son, David Lee Gilbert, Jr. of Northbridge; brothers, Daniel Gilbert of Millbury, Alvin Gilbert of Auburn and Ronald Gilbert of East Douglas and a sister, Diann Dempsey of Woodstock, CT; grandchildren, Damian Gilbert and Taylaleigh Gilbert of Northbridge, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased a granddaughter, Rilyn Rae-Lee Gilbert of Northbridge.

He was born in Milford, son of Daniel W. Gilbert and Louise Reed Gilbert of Millbury. He attended Millbury schools prior to his attending Worcester Boys Regional High School. He served as a mechanic in the Navy Air Wing during the Vietnam War. He worked for Cesyl Mills in Millbury as a mechanic for 30 years and then as a bus driver for Atlantic Express and Vendetti Transportation.

He was an avid fisherman.

A memorial service will be held at Howard Cemetery in Sutton at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011.
