MILLBURY, Mass. - On a beautiful Tuesday evening in Millbury, Sandy Cristo, one of three candidates for two seats on the Board of Selectmen, held a fundraiser meet and greet barbecue at Dar Bah for supporters and those interested in her campaign.
Held out on the back deck, it was a perfect backdrop with the weather cooperating superbly for the large enthusiastic crowd. Dick Foley, owner of Dar Bar, was out back greeting guests as well as his staff of volunteers who were cooking up plenty of hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone in attendance.
Cristo mingled with the crowd for about the first hour before speaking. "We got off to a very late start," she said, "but now we're moving forward and getting the word out, door to door." Cristo asked for continued support and mentioned her efforts this upcoming week before the election on Tuesday, April 24.
When the throng had subsided a bit Cristo was able to answer a few quick questions before gettting back to the crowd. Asked about how her first campaign experience has been, she beamed a big smile. "It's been a fantastic experience," she said. "We did get a late start but we've really enjoyed going out and meeting the people, it has been all positive."
She added, "I feel that we have a vision for how we'd like things to be, so we have to get out and give people the message. There are definitely things where I feel I can make a difference if given the opportunity to serve and elected."
Cristo said she's been going to door-to-door since Saturday and that she and her campaign volunteers will be hitting three or four streets a day until the election.
The election is definitely shaping up to be an interesting one, three different candidates for two seats with each having a very solid core of support. Right now it appears to seem pretty evenly based across the board.
The polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Millbury High School Gymnasium.
