MILLBURY, Mass. - On Thursday night in the Millbury High School Media Center, the Democratic Town Committee hosted a Candidates Night for those vying for local political offices.

Candidates running for contested offices were limited to three minute speeches while those running uncontested races were limited to just one minute.

The event was emceed by Mary Krumsiek and among the speakers were Thomas F Fox running unopposed for re-election as town moderator, Paul Piktelis running for re-election on the Planning Board, William C. Wilkinson and Armand O. White (incumbent) running for the Board of Health.

Bill Borowski gets the award for getting an incredible amount of information out in just over a minute.  Francis King, running for re-election and Sandy Cristo for the Board of Selectmen spoke. Frank Irr couldn't be there as he had, months before, volunteered to accompany the Millbury High Band on their trip to New York City. He was represented by his brother Victor who spoke on his behalf.

A prime opportunity was lost by residents who could have, but did not, send in questions to ask candidates questions on local issues.

At a recent town meeting on Cape Cod, I heard a person speaking about the Millbury Town Moderator and the wonderful job that he does explaining procedures, moving articles quickly, and treating speakers with respect. I was proud to let the speaker that I knew Tom Fox as the moderator and friend and the best town moderator that I have ever witnessed.
