MILLBURY, Mass. — Millbury residents were out on Singletary Lake for the 25th Annual Ice Fishing Derby Sunday.

The weather was sunny but very cold as the wind whipped across the broad parts of the lake, freezing exposed skin but doing little to dampen the spirits of Millbury residents who were taking part.

"I've got my chair and am going catch some rays," joked Chris Woll as he reclined in an easy chair out on the ice. The prevailing sentiment however was that the numbers were a little lower than expected given the sunny weather and good ice conditions.

Approximately 120 people were fishing in the mid-morning time frame with a few people calling out when landing a good-sized fish, which would carry across the lake.

The day started with the Annual Pancake Breakfast at Millbury's Fire Station II and the turnout was brisk as residents flocked out to support the effort.

The big catch of the day belong to Shane George of Millbury who pulled in a 5 lb 12 oz. Bass. George won a portion of the proceeds, which totalled $225.
