MILLBURY, Mass. - William "Bill" Lucey was born and raised in Millbury and is a Woolie through and through. An exceptional student and athlete, Lucey was a standout at Millbury High School before graduating from Nichols College with a degree in business management.

On Columbus Day, 2011 while on a trip with his wife, Lucey suffered a tragic and terrible fall, one which changed his life forever. He suffered a significant head and spinal cord injury and spent weeks at Mass General Hospital. He underwent numerous brain and spine surgeries.

Months have now passed since the injury and Lucey is on his way to recovery at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. He spent weeks on the eighth floor dedicated to head injuries and has since moved to the ninth floor focusing on spinal rehabilitation. Over this time, his wit and sense of humor have returned and his motivation to heal has taken over the fear and uncertainty.

In his home, paralyzed from the chest down, Lucey requires the daily assistance of personal care professionals and in-home physical therapists. While Lucey continues his hardest to fight through the challenges life has set forth, his family, friends and community supporters are asked to help out in whatever way they can.

On June 2, a special benefit will be held at St. John's High School, Shrewsbury, at 7 p.m. All proceeds will go to assist the Lucey family in their long road to recovery.

There will be a food buffet, music, auctions and a cash bar for friends to enjoy. Any and all donations will be accepted at www.bash4bill.com or by contacting Bill or Carol 508-865-3070. Make checks payable to "Bash4 Bill or William N. Lucey.
