MILLBURY, Mass. — The 25th Annual Lake Singletary Ice Fishing Derby in Millbury is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.
Also known as Take A Kid Fishing Day, it is sponsored by Engine Company II of the Millbury Fire Department. The cost is a $15 donation for adults and $3 for children 12 or under.
Prizes will include cash, based on the number of entries for contestants 13 and over and for children 12 and under, for the biggest fish.
The rain date is Feb. 17. Last year’s event was canceled due to a lack of ice so turnout is expected to be high this year.
The fishing derby coincides with the Millbury Fire Department’s annual pancake breakfast at Engine Company II’s firehouse. This is a perfect way to prepare for a great fishing day. Breakfast is served from 6 to 11 a.m. The cost is a $5 donation for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children under 12.
