MILLBURY, Mass. — The Millbury Public Library and the Celebrity Readers program is presenting local Shrewsbury author April Jones-Prince on Feb. 6 at 4:15 p.m., during Black History Month, reading from her book, her "Jackie Robinson: He Led the Way."
Following the reading, there will be a Q & A session and book signing. Then stickers and bookmarks will be distributed and there will be refreshments and door prizes for the kids.
The Celebrity Reader program is sponsored in part by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, Millbury Cultural Council and the Friends of the Millbury Public Library along with Director Liz Valero and the library staff.
Jones-Prince’s book is the story of Jackie Robinson who became the first black Major League baseball player of the modern era when he broke the color barrier as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
The book follows Robinson from his childhood through his career as an MVP winning baseball player and a hero of the civil rights movement.
This book reading coincides with Black History Month and the start of baseball spring training.
